This study aims to investigate the reading questions in English for Nusantara for 8th grader students since this book is the newest version of the Emancipated Curriculum textbook that is most widely used by most schools in Indonesia. A basic premise is that Higher-Order Thinking Skills has become a major theme in Emancipated curriculum. This curriculum includes a Minimum Competency Assessment with questions on High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). However, to what extent HOTS questions provided in the textbook, need further investigation. Thus, this study investigated the HOTS reading questions in the textbook using the revised Bloom’s taxonomy. Using a qualitative approach with document analysis and interview, an English textbook and a teacher were investigated in this exploratory study. The data were analyzed using the revised Bloom’s Taxonomy framework. The results showed the reading questions in the textbook are dominated by C1 remembering level (48,05%). In contrast, C6 creating level only appeared once and the percentage only 01,30%. The total percentage of LOTS reading questions in the textbook is 75,97%. Meanwhile, 24,02% of the reading questions were HOTS. Based on the findings, it showed us that the textbook has not succeeded in realizing HOTS as stipulated by the Emancipated Curriculum. Therefore, the teacher must develop more questions at the HOTS level so that the students’ needs are in accordance with the demands of Emancipated Curriculum.
